Hi all! It’s been a busy month and this weekend was no exception. The best part? It was a fun weekend with friends and family! Since I made my way to a few places in the Charleston area, I figured I’d share my thoughts with y’all.
Friday
My boyfriend and I usually have a set Friday night date night with homemade pizza (a recipe I will share one day), but we decided to do something different this weekend. Instead, we went out with some of his friends to Charleston Distilling Co.. The Distilling Co. is only about 10 minutes from my house and I have been wanting to try the sushi for awhile now. Let me tell you, SO WORTH THE WAIT.
Full disclosure, and if you looked at my Instagram you already know this, I got zero pictures of the sushi. Once they were done, I was so dang excited to eat them I completely forgot I needed to take pictures. When did I remember? When every piece was eaten. Whoops!
Boyfriend got the hibachi and we were really impressed with the portions. He doesn’t eat veggies so he got the Chicken Teriyaki with double fried rice. I tried some of his and I definitely recommend it if sushi isn’t your thing. All in all, food was a 10 out of 10.
Now for the drinks. To be honest, I only ended up getting one drink there. I ordered a hibiscus margarita that was very delicious. However, the Distilling Co. is right next to one of my favorite places, Estuary Beans & Barley.
Estuary is usually one of my favorite places for coffee in the morning on the weekend, but they also have their own beer and alcoholic drinks. While I do drink beer on occasion, I was interested in their cocktail selection. The two drinks I tried were their Strawberry Smash and a Pink Poodle. I’m not sure what was in the second, but the first is a strawberry basil syrup muddled with fresh strawberries and mint then topped with their lime seltzer and Capt’n Tang.
That drink was amazing. Dangerous because it didn’t feel like you drinking anything alcoholic, but amazing. If you find yourself in Johns Island, you absolutely need to make your way to Charleston Distilling Co. and Estuary. You need to try both though!
Saturday
Saturday was a get stuff done day with me running a work errand, boyfriend doing my lawn (yes, so sweet) and then us organizing his apartment. After that we spent the night hanging out with my family and my oldest niece having a movie night with him and I.
Sunday
Sunday afternoon we decided to meet another couple of his friends for the last day of the Summerville Flowertown Festival. From what I can tell, this annual festival is usually in the spring but was changed to the fall this year. There were a ton of vendors and LOTS of people when we went. I was actually surprised by the amount of people at this thing.
Let me completely honest with you. I wasn’t very impressed with the festival. There weren’t many vendors I was interested in that I could see. With that said, I may have missed some because of the crowds of people. There was one booth that had different themed cornhole bags that were pretty cool. They ranged from college or professional team bags to Star Wars bags. They looked well made too, which is important because you don’t want them breaking after being thrown.
Probably the best part of going to the festival was the food we ordered. Boyfriend and I are huge mac and cheese fans so this lunch was right up our alley.
The Mac Daddy Food Truck was delicious. They describe the mac and cheese as using “10 year, cave-aged, sharp cheddar, cavatappi pasta, and a few secret ingredients.” We ordered a large with cut up fried chicken on top. Such a good decision. The combination really made the mac.
If you’re really into festivals, you might want to check this one out next year. However, I will likely pass on it.
Well guys, that’s my weekend in review! I hope you enjoyed the post and that it motivates you to check out local places and festivals in your area. My next post will be a book review so be on the lookout!
